Kalbant apie praeitį, tai priimtinas naudojimas. "After establishment in
1944, Žalgiris would become Soviet champions five times" - maždaug tas
pats, kas "... went on to become Soviet champions five times" ... na arba
"... became Soviet champions five times". T.y., su "would" šnekama apie
ateitį - bet lyginant su pradiniu tašku, įsteigimo metais (1944). "After
Stalingrad, it became totally clear who the winners would be".

Yra ir daugiau niuansų. Pvz., "would" gali būti naudojamas naudojamas,
kalbant apie praeities įvykius, kurie kartodavosi (panaši reikšmė į "used
to").

"Each morning, we'd meet at the railway station. Back in those times, he'd
always wear that funny red cap. After having a few beers, we'd then go
fishing".
