SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Plustek USA today announced 
their "OpticPro 4800P" flatbed scanner, breaking new ground in the scanner 
market by working with a parallel port connection (both standard parallel 
and EPP) rather than a SCSI adapter or interface card. This allows the 
OpticPro 4800P to work with both notebook and desktop computers while 
dramatically simplifying installation. Also, with Plustek's unique port 
design, users can simultaneously connect their printer to the same parallel 
port without interference.

The OpticPro 4800P's features and specifications are respectable: 600dpi 
resolution (up to 4800 with interpolation), single-pass scanning, 24-bit 
color, cold-cathode lamp (lasts longer than normal illumination sources), 
and one-touch activation with a button that pops open Plustek's "Action 
Manager" software when pressed.

The announcement makes professional-level flatbed scanner available, for the 
first time, to both novice users who want to avoid complicated hardware 
installations and notebook users who want the capabilities of a flatbed
